Teachers in Ungheni district can enrol in a new stage of the national DigiProf programme, through which the Ministry of Education and Research offers free training to develop teachers’ digital skills. More than 8,000 teachers across the country can take part in this round, the Ungheni Education Directorate announced, relaying the ministry’s message.
The programme is aimed at staff in preschool, primary, gymnasium and high-school education, as well as at mentors. The materials have been adapted for each level of education, in line with the European standard for teachers’ digital competences, DigCompEdu. The training is free and runs in Romanian and Russian, and enrolment is done through a participation form. The training programme is implemented by the National Centre for Digital Innovation in Education “Clasa Viitorului”, part of the “Ion Creangă” State Pedagogical University in Chișinău.
Why it matters for Ungheni’s schools
DigiProf is a national programme, with no separate figure for Ungheni. The local stakes, though, lie in the state of the district’s teaching corps: Ungheni enters the new school year with 73 teaching posts left vacant on the official list finalised on 5 June, among the largest shortages in the country. With ever fewer young teachers coming to the blackboard, training those already in the system — including digitalising teaching — becomes one of the levers the state is counting on, alongside financial incentives to attract young teachers.
Part of a wider digitalisation push
DigiProf is not the only training of its kind. The Ungheni Education Directorate recalls that, between December 2025 and May 2026, more than 10,300 other teachers in the country went through a “Digital Innovations of the Educational System” programme, implemented by UNICEF Moldova in partnership with the Ministry of Education and with the support of the Global Partnership for Education. The two programmes are part of the same effort to bring digital skills into schools, in a system where teachers are ever fewer and ever more stretched.
