How we handle it

• Factual errors — we correct the text and add a note at the end of the article with the date and what changed.
• Minor mistakes (typos, wording) — fixed without a note, if they don’t change the meaning.
• Updates — when new facts emerge, we mark the piece “Updated” with the date.
• Retractions — if a piece is fundamentally wrong, we retract it and explain why, keeping the page accessible.

Corrections log

• 12 August 2026 — “The Slavena bus station in Ungheni: what the ANTA Order and the Municipal Council’s decisions show” — The initial version (10 August, under the headline “A commercial parking lot in Ungheni works as a bus station — without the conditions the law requires”) contained several errors about the legal framework. We described bus-station activity as subject to licensing by ANTA, with a licence that can be withdrawn; in the in-force redaction of the Road Transport Code no. 150/2014, the activity is not licensed — it is carried out by enterprises authorized by ANTA and is registered in the agency’s register (art. 86 and 88). We wrongly listed the minimum facilities required of a bus station (“four platforms, a dispatch room, parking for eight vehicles”); the law requires at least two platforms, a sanitary unit with two cabins, a luggage space, information display at each platform, and connection to an integrated management system (art. 87). We presented as the current situation the fact that the address Decebal 19/B “does not appear in the register of bus stations” — but that register is from 4 September 2023, predates the appearance of the bus station, and does not establish its status in 2025–2026. We wrote that, by the decision of 27 September 2024, the Council “took note” of the operator’s request; in fact, Decision no. 7/24 approved the arrangement of the bus station. We corrected these passages and reformulated the headline and the conclusions: the dispute is between the operator and the Municipal Council, and the legal effect of the revocation of the local act on the situation with ANTA does not follow unequivocally from the documents held by the newsroom. We included ANTA Order no. 400 of 19 December 2025, by which the agency included “Autogara Slavena BTA 28” (Decebal 19/B) in the Inter-district Road Transport Program for certain routes; we noted that the legal wording requiring the decision of the “executive body” of the local authority came into force only on 18 July 2025, after the 2024 decision; we removed a statement about a referral to ANTA and the police that rested on a third-party publication, not a primary document; and we added the right of reply of the operator, SA “Baza de Transport Auto nr. 28”.

• 6 August 2026 — “Swedish support for the Ungheni merger: the ten city halls signed an agreement with SALAR International” — The same error as in the three articles corrected the day before: we worked out the amalgamation incentive using only the first part of the formula in point 114 of the Voluntary Amalgamation Methodology (Government Decision No. 925/2023, published in Monitorul Oficial No. 472-473 of 8 December 2023), and called the result a “calculation on the official formula”. The formula has two terms: the population multiplied by 3,000 lei, plus a second term that grows with the number of town halls in the group and which, where the centre has more than 10,000 residents, is calculated on the population outside the centre. Correctly: for the group around the municipality of Ungheni — 150,911,700 lei of development incentive and 157,511,700 for the full package, not “over 130 million”. We corrected the passage, set out the legal basis in the methodology note and published a correction note at the end of the article. The rest of the piece — the agreement with SALAR International and the size of the Swedish support — stands unchanged.

• 5 August 2026 — “Ten localities, one town hall: Ungheni launches the merger, public consultation until 29 June”, “A second merger pole in Ungheni district: Sculeni gathers four communes, one from Fălești” and “Left without Costuleni, Măcărești heads for the municipality of Ungheni: the assembly voted to merge” — In all three we worked out the amalgamation money using only the first part of the official formula, and called the result a “calculation on the official formula”. The formula in point 114 of the Voluntary Amalgamation Methodology (Government Decision No. 925/2023, published in Monitorul Oficial No. 472-473 of 8 December 2023) has two terms: the population multiplied by 3,000 lei, plus a second term that grows with the number of town halls in the group and which, where the centre has more than 10,000 residents, is calculated on the population outside the centre. Correctly: for the group around the municipality of Ungheni — 150,911,700 lei of development incentive and 157,511,700 for the full package, not “more than 130 million”; for the Sculeni cluster — 26,132,682 and 32,532,682, not “over 22 million”, and the “over 32 million” figure we had set down as unconfirmed was in fact close to the reality. At Măcărești the error was also one of category: the incentive is granted to the unit resulting from the merger, once, on its total population — not to each commune that joins it — so a sum “for Măcărești” does not exist as such. We corrected the passages, set out the legal basis in the methodology notes and published a correction note at the end of each article.

• 1 August 2026 — “Five amalgamation groups in Ungheni: 27 mayoralties inside, six outside them” — We wrote that Petrești has no amalgamation act in the state register, and we placed all six remaining mayoralties “outside any group”. Both were wrong. The Petrești communal council had debated the matter twice — decisions no. 02/18 of 24 April and no. 03/14 of 27 May 2026 —, convened the commune’s general assembly and rejected the initiation with reasons given; we presented as an absence a decision that had been argued and voted. And Bușila, Chirileni and Negurenii Vechi had formed a group of their own, which we had reported ourselves on 15 July. The second error was pointed out to us publicly, in a comment on our Facebook page, by MP Andrian Cheptonar; checking it, we came upon the first. The cause: the State Register of Local Acts search engine does not return the same results for “amalgamare” and “Amalgamare”, and the titles of the Petrești decisions carry the capitalised form. We redid the check on both spellings and for each of the 34 entities that publish acts in the district. We corrected the text, the headline and the cover infographic, added the acts to the sources and published a correction note at the end of the article. The rest of the findings stands.

• 31 July 2026 — “In Ungheni, the number of young people has halved in 11 years — and a job fair is looking for a reason to keep them” — We wrote that Ungheni district had “about 936” registered job vacancies, “the third figure after Chișinău and Bălți”. That figure is not supported by any National Employment Agency publication: the district had 183 vacancies on 31 December 2025, 146 on 5 March 2026, 156 on 30 April 2026 and 260 on 26 June 2026 — on that last date it was indeed the third in the country. On the day of publication, the most recent bulletin was the one from 30 April, when the district ranked ninth. The link in the sources pointed to the agency’s homepage rather than to a specific document; we replaced it with the actual bulletins, corrected the passage and published a note at the end of the article. The article’s finding — that unfilled jobs exist in the district — still stands.

• 28 July 2026 — “36.7 million lei for 2.14 km: Ungheni’s Alexandru cel Bun street goes into reconstruction” — We wrote that the works are paid for by the District Council out of the state transfer for district roads, and that the contract sum exceeds by 8.7 million lei everything the district receives in a year. In fact the cost is split between the two authorities by a cooperation agreement approved by both councils in January 2026 and amended in May 2026, before the contract was awarded: the District Council 75%, the Ungheni municipal town hall 25% of the tendered sum — so the district’s share stays below its annual allocation, not above it. We also wrote that the street’s administration “belongs to the district, not to the town hall”, without saying that the street passed into district ownership only on 3 July 2023, handed over free of charge by the Ungheni Municipal Council. We corrected both chapters, added the documents to the sources and published a correction note at the end of the article. The contract data stand unchanged.

• 19 July 2026 — “Floods move the Sânziene Unghenene festival off Delia island into the city centre” and “«Sânziene Unghenene» moves downtown for its 7th edition” — In both pieces we wrote that the Urban Garden in central Ungheni was built with the support of the city of Cluj-Napoca. In fact, the Urban Garden — the green space between Scuarul Înfrățirii and the Episcopal Cathedral — is a cross-border project funded by the European Union (Interreg VI-A NEXT Romania–Republic of Moldova, code ROMD00453). What Cluj-Napoca did support are Scuarul Înfrățirii and the Central Park (locally nicknamed “Little Cluj”) — different places. We corrected the passage; it was a contextual detail, and the pieces’ stakes stand unchanged.

• 18 July 2026 — “Cornești’s second merger attempt goes to public consultation: with Bumbăta, the new perimeter reaches 4.064 residents” — In the initial version we wrote that the draft decision had not been published together with the announcement and that the outcome of the administrative-centre calculation was not public. Draft decision no. 7/1 had, however, been public on particip.gov.md since July 14 and designates Cornești town as the administrative centre. We corrected the passage and added a correction note; the article’s stake — the merger’s tight calendar — stands unchanged.

• 17 July 2026 — “40.01 lei per cubic metre: the new water tariff applies from today…” — In the initial version we wrote that the most recent annual activity report published on the operator’s website was the one for 2022. The «Annual reports» page, however, included the reports for 2023 and 2024, and on 13 July the reports for 2025 had also been published. We corrected the passage and added a correction note; the finding about the out-of-date tariff page still stands.

• 16 July 2026 — “18 in favour, 11 abstentions: five villages lose their health centre…” — The one-off bonus approved at the same sitting covered the management of nine of the 11 health centres, not all of them as we had written — the annex does not list CS Sculeni or CS Rădenii Vechi. We corrected the figure, specified the source of the rule (Order No. 436 of 29 May 2026), and used the precise term («votes» rather than «items»). The stake described in the article stands unchanged.

• 15 July 2026 — “18 in favour, 11 abstentions: five villages lose their health centre…” — In the initial version we wrote that, under the old rule, the heads of rural health centres were appointed without a competition, and under the new one — through a competition. The correct picture is the reverse: the old rule required a competition (organised by the district council), while the new one removes it for the centres that remain autonomous. We corrected the passage and added a note at the end of the article. The stake described in the article stands unchanged.
