The U17 team of Ungheni District Sports School drew 3-3 with FC Zimbru U17 in matchday 3 of the National League U17, on Wednesday, 26 August, at the Ungheni Town Stadium. It is the first point for Ungheni’s youth team this season.

The result stands in sharp contrast with the first two matchdays. In their season opener, SS Ungheni lost 0-3 at home to Dacia Buiucani. A week later, away, they were beaten 0-10 by Academia Rebeja-UTM. With a goal record of 0-13 from two matches, matchday 3 against Zimbru — the second-placed team with 7 points and a goal record of 10-4 — looked like the toughest test yet.

It turned out otherwise. SS Ungheni scored three times in a single match — their first goals of the season — and finished 3-3.

”Your voice rang out like thunder”

The Sports School published a Facebook post with 51 photos from the match, thanking the fans:

“When the boys were down, your voice rang out like thunder and gave them the strength to fight to the last drop of energy to equalise,” the Sports School wrote on Facebook. “This point is yours too.”

Standings and context

After three matchdays, SS Ungheni sit 7th out of 8, with 1 point (0 wins, 1 draw, 2 defeats) and a goal record of 3-16. The National League U17 has eight teams, including FC Sheriff, FC Zimbru, Academia Rebeja-UTM and FC Petrocub.

The team, coached by Constantin Lungu, is the same generation that last season earned promotion to the National League at U16 level. The step up to U17 means stronger opponents, and the season so far had confirmed the gap — with one exception: Wednesday’s match.

The scorers of the three goals have not been published by the FMF.
