The Ungheni Territorial Employment Structure (STOFM) has opened, on the institution’s premises, a space set up specially for children. It is a secure and supervised area, equipped with furniture sized for young children, books, interactive games and materials for developing early skills.
Its purpose is practical: parents who come to the office for a job interview or for retraining courses can leave their child in a safe place, a few steps away, instead of postponing the visit.
The subdivision’s representative says that, until now, the lack of such a solution kept people — especially women — away from the labour market.
The creation of this space is a concrete step toward removing the barriers that parents face in the labour market in the Ungheni region. Many women postpone their professional reintegration for lack of safe solutions to supervise their children during visits to the STOFM office. The space was set up through a project of the International Labour Organization dedicated to quality jobs in the care sector, and through a support programme for women’s participation in the labour market, funded by the Government of Switzerland, through the National Employment Agency.
