The city of Ungheni has begun building two access roads to its new agri-food market, which is currently being developed. One starts from Decebal Street, the other from Ciprian Porumbescu Street, City Hall announced.
The work is being carried out by ‘Servicii Comunale Ungheni’ LLC (the municipal enterprise) and is a related part of the project ‘Construction of the agri-food market in the municipality of Ungheni’, implemented by the Government through the Centre Regional Development Agency (ADR Centru), with support from the National Fund for Regional and Local Development and a contribution from local authorities. Mayor Vitalie Vrabie inspected the site.
Why access matters
The purpose of the two roads, according to the mayor, is to redistribute traffic toward the market. “These two access roads will ensure an even distribution of traffic,” Vitalie Vrabie said in a comment, adding that they are meant to ease access from Decebal Street, near the PECO filling station, “where traffic is heavy.” The investment also includes, according to the mayor, sidewalks and parking spaces — for shoppers, traders and other road users.
The stakes are concrete for a town where market day already clogs traffic. At the end of July we wrote about how Alexandru cel Bun Street gets blocked on Thursdays and Sundays, on trading days. A separate access route to the new market, with several entrances, is exactly the kind of measure that could ease this sort of gridlock.
Where the roads actually go
The two roads serve the agri-food market that Ungheni is building on Decebal Street — a project of over 17.5 million lei, with the construction of the pavilions awarded to the firm ‘Proex Construct’ through ADR Centru and the deadline pushed toward autumn. Alongside the infrastructure, the market is also being equipped: City Hall launched a procurement for modular containers for the market, with an estimated value of almost 489,000 lei.
The value and timeline of the work on the two access roads were not disclosed in the announcement, and they do not appear in any public procurement procedure either. The tender initially launched by City Hall for the development of the access roads was cancelled in May 2026, according to the public procurement register, with the standard note “serious deviations from the legal provisions affecting the outcome of the award procedure”. The work is now being carried out directly by Servicii Comunale, the municipal enterprise, as a contribution from local authorities.
