A playing field can double its value thanks to one thing — light. In Blândești, a village in Sculeni commune, Ungheni district, the fenced mini-football pitch now has lighting fixtures, recently installed by the commune’s City Hall — which means it can be used after dark too, not just during daytime hours.
The difference is bigger than it seems. In summer, when the thermometer climbs past +30 °C at midday, outdoor sport becomes dangerous at exactly the hours when the pitch used to sit empty. With lighting, games move into the cool of the evening — the very window in which children and young people can run without enduring the scorching heat.
A donation that put the pitch “on the map” after sunset
The lighting fixtures were not bought from the local budget but came as a donation: Sculeni commune’s City Hall received them from the company Free.on and the “Casa Tatălui” Association, which the authority publicly named, thanking them for their involvement. The City Hall handled the installation.
In the comments under the announcement, the community’s reaction was simple and direct — joy that the youngest now have a place to gather and play in the evening. For a small village, a lit pitch is not only a sports facility but also one more meeting point, of a kind that villages often lack.
Blândești, the village at the edge of the commune’s map
The good news takes on a particular shape precisely for Blândești. The village is the far end of the commune — in the division of Sculeni’s water network into sectors, Blândești is Sector 4, and on the heatwave days it was among the areas where water arrived only with difficulty, on a strict, hourly schedule. A lit sports pitch does not, of course, solve the water problem; but it shows that even at the edge of the commune concrete steps can be taken when the local authority and private partners push in the same direction.
