On the morning of 20 August, two Renault coaches and a Ford minibus donated by the Cluj-Napoca Public Transport Company (CTP) arrived in Ungheni. The three vehicles were sent to mark the 564th anniversary of the city’s first documentary mention, the Ungheni Municipality announced.
The new vehicles “will be used equally by the residents of Ungheni and for the benefit of the residents of Ungheni,” the Municipality said.
Previously, Cluj-Napoca had donated three minibuses and two buses to Ungheni. These are currently used to transport athletes, artists, and students to district and national competitions and events. With today’s batch, total donated vehicles reach eight units in ten years of cooperation.
Since March 2026, the municipality of Ungheni has had a re-municipalized public transport network with 23 vehicles on five urban routes and electronic ticketing, operated by SRL Servicii Comunale Ungheni. The vehicles donated by Cluj-Napoca are used separately, for group travel.
The relationship between the two municipalities is based on the Cooperation Agreement of 2016, approved by Cluj-Napoca Local Council Decision No. 538 of 23 September 2016 and by Ungheni Town Council Decision No. 7/2 of 13 October 2016. Beyond vehicles, the agreement has also produced infrastructure projects: in July 2026, the Cluj-Napoca Local Council approved co-financing of 593,000 Romanian lei — approximately 113,000 euros, or 39% of the first stage of the Delia lakefront development.
