The Ungheni district football cup „MAGIRUS” finds its semifinalists on Sunday, 12 July: the quarterfinal second legs are played, in four matches. The winners go through to the semifinals, and several teams have a first-leg result to overturn.

The hardest task belongs to FC Bârsa Ungheni. Having lost the first leg 2-5 to FC Haiduc Bumbăta, it needs a three-goal swing to turn the tie around — at home, at the Ungheni municipal stadium.

In the first leg at Bumbăta we lost 5-2. On Sunday we hope to pull off a „remontada”, in Ungheni. Mihai Grosu, FC Bârsa Ungheni

Sunday’s schedule

According to the Ungheni Territorial Football Association (ATF), the four second legs are played as follows:

  • 10.00 — FC Speranța Semeni – FC Mănoilești, at the Semeni stadium. In the first leg Mănoilești won 2-1, so Semeni has a goal to make up — and does so without Gheorghe Uzdriș, suspended.
  • 11.00 — FC Bârsa Ungheni – FC Haiduc Bumbăta, at the Ungheni municipal stadium. First leg: 5-2 to Bumbăta, which, however, turns up without Vasile Croitoru, suspended.
  • 18.00 — FC Zagarancea – FC Sculeni, at the Zagarancea stadium. First leg: 1-0 to Sculeni; Zagarancea plays at home to overturn the result.
  • 18.00 — FC Unirea Cetireni – FC Regina Maria Ungheni, at the Cetireni stadium. First leg: 2-0 to Regina Maria, which is left without Dumitru Andrițchi, suspended.

The three absences come from ATF protocol no. 10, of 9 July: a one-match ban each for a red card taken in the first legs on 5 July. For the teams with a comfortable lead — Bumbăta and Regina Maria — losing a player matters less; for Semeni, which has to attack, it hurts more.

The ATF post calls the round „phase 1/8”, but these are the quarterfinal second legs: four ties, four semifinal places. „MAGIRUS” gathers, summer after summer, the teams of the municipality and of the villages of Ungheni district, and on Sunday all four grounds — Semeni, Ungheni, Zagarancea and Cetireni — have a match.
