SA “Covoare-Ungheni” will present a 48-square-meter carpet on August 28 at the second edition of the national “Produs Autohton” exhibition at CIE Moldexpo, in an attempt to set a record — the largest woven carpet in the Republic of Moldova.
The exhibition, organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Moldova in partnership with Moldexpo and the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, will bring together over 300 producers from all regions of the country, including Transnistria and Gagauzia, from August 28 to 30. Admission will be free.
SA “Covoare-Ungheni” (IDNO 1002609002062) is the largest carpet manufacturer in Moldova. The factory has been operating since 1980 in Ungheni, where it is a resident of the Free Economic Zone “Ungheni-Business.” Under the Moldabela brand, the company exports WOOLMARK-certified wool carpets to five continents.
In October 2024, the Ungheni Court declared the company insolvent, at the request of the debtor and creditors, including the State Tax Service. Debts to the state budget amounted to approximately 14 million lei. Nicolas Nicula, the company’s administrator, was suspended from his position, and Igor Bulgaru was appointed as insolvency administrator.
According to company register data, SA “Covoare-Ungheni” had 127 employees in 2025, with revenue of 136.4 million lei and a profit of approximately 970 thousand lei. The majority shareholder is ÎM ACVILA SRL, with 93%.
Over 80% of the Ungheni raion’s industry involves the textile and carpet sector, according to data published by the Raion Council.
In addition to the 48-square-meter carpet, the “Produs Autohton” exhibition will also host an attempt to set a second record — the largest sour cherry pie in Moldova.
