Summer is the season when schools are repaired while the pupils are on holiday. This year, one of the works has both a price and a payer announced from the outset: 500,000 lei of Ministry of Education and Research money, for the „Anatol Popovici” gymnasium in Boghenii Noi. The announcement was made by the Ungheni District Council.
It is a state investment straight into a rural school — the one that gathers the pupils of the Culei area, in the Boghenii Noi commune of the Ungheni district. The authorities say the aim is to „create better conditions for students,” without yet specifying what the sum covers: the roof, heating, sanitation, classrooms or something else.
Why the figure matters
In a long line of announcements about „completed works” and „modern conditions” that skirt around the money, this one is the exception: it puts on the table both the sum — 500,000 lei — and the source — the Education Ministry’s budget, meaning national public money rather than the town hall’s. It is exactly the kind of information that lets a citizen judge an investment: how much, and from whom.
What remains unclear is the concrete list of works and the deadline by which the gymnasium must be ready for the new school year. As it is ministry money, the execution contract is usually awarded through a public tender, and its details (the contractor, the final value, the schedule) are, by law, public information.
