ADR Centru checked three sites in Ungheni: the market, the French Park and a 35-million-lei road to Plaiul Fagului

The Centru Regional Development Agency — the body through which the state spends money from the National Fund for Regional and Local Development — inspected three building sites in Ungheni district on 18 June. Alongside the already-known agri-food market and French Park, a third project surfaced: rebuilding the access road to the “Plaiul Fagului” reserve, worth about 35 million lei. Together it is tens of millions in public money — which the official statement no longer puts into figures.

The Centru Regional Development Agency (ADR Centru) — the body through which the government spends money from the National Fund for Regional and Local Development (FNDRL) — visited three building sites in Ungheni district on 18 June. Two of them are already familiar to the people of Ungheni: the agri-food market and the French Park. The third now comes to the fore — rebuilding the access road to the “Plaiul Fagului” nature reserve, a project worth about 35 million lei.

A new road to Plaiul Fagului

The freshest of the three stories is the road to the reserve. Works started recently, and the project covers the rebuilding of about three kilometres of road — 1.6 km through the village of Rădenii Vechi and another 1.4 km up to the reserve entrance — plus a bridge, two culverts, road signs and information panels for visitors.

According to data made public by the state agency Moldpres at the contract signing, in April, the investment comes to 35.17 million lei, the works are carried out by the firm “Rutador” SRL with an 18-month term, and the contract was signed by ADR Centru, the Ungheni District Council and the contractor. Unlike the market and the park, co-funded by the mayoralty, this project is co-funded by the District Council — meaning it is a district investment, not just the town’s. Beyond the asphalt, the stake is tourism: easy access to “Plaiul Fagului” can bring more visitors and support the guesthouses and small businesses nearby.

The market and the French Park, as of now

At the municipal agri-food market, the contractor is assembling the metal frames for the 30 commercial pavilions, having finished the underground utility networks, and is continuing to pave the grounds — a stage that confirms, in the financier’s own words, what the mayoralty showed in its site photos as well. This is the 17.5-million-lei project, of which 15 million come from the FNDRL.

At the French Park, works are advancing on several fronts at once: utility networks, trenches for lighting and a water main, the technical-room foundations and the water, sewage, irrigation and lighting systems. The roughly four hectares being developed will gain multifunctional sports grounds, a padel court, a parkour zone, a pump track, playgrounds, urban furniture and energy-efficient lighting, plus native trees and shrubs.

Both urban projects are implemented by the government through ADR Centru, from the FNDRL and with a contribution from the Ungheni mayoralty. This is not, in fact, the financier’s first stop in town: on an earlier visit, on 28 April, ADR Centru was monitoring three objectives too, but the third was then the Zagarancea–Cornești trunk water main — a sign that the district’s public-money sites come one after another.

Tens of millions — but no new figures

On paper, the three sites inspected in a single day add up to a sum any taxpayer would want to see tracked: the market (17.5 million), the French Park (around 34 million, the total value floated at launch) and the road to Plaiul Fagului (35.17 million) — together, over 80 million lei, national and local money.

This is exactly where the official statement stops. The ADR Centru announcement describes what works are under way, but does not say how much each objective costs, what completion percentage the works have reached, or who was on site. For the French Park, for instance, the gap between the figures floated at launch remains unresolved — the works contract of about 25.7 million lei, the “over 33.5 million” announced by the mayoralty and the roughly 34 million mentioned by ADR Centru — a breakdown we flagged back when the works began. At the market, two readers were already asking, under a mayoralty post, where the mandatory site information panel is — the one that would show any passer-by who is responsible for the work and how much it costs.

The financier’s monitoring is, in itself, good news: it means someone is checking deadlines and quality on the public’s money. But for that same transparency to reach the people of Ungheni who pay for it, the figures and the stage of each site should be posted on the financier’s own initiative — on the panel at the site gate and in statements — not hunted for through registries. These are the markers by which the district will be able to measure, a few months from now, whether the more than 80 million lei kept their promise.

The stage of works at the three sites and the existence of the Plaiul Fagului road project come from ADR Centru’s official statement of 18 June 2026, which gives no values or completion percentages. The road’s value (35.17 million lei), the contractor and the term come from the state agency Moldpres’s report at the contract signing, in April. The market’s value (17.5 million lei, of which 15 million from the FNDRL) comes from the public register of awarded contracts and from our earlier article; the divergent figures for the French Park come from the mayoralty’s and ADR Centru’s statements and remain to be clarified at the end of the works. ADR Centru’s statement does not name the officials present on 18 June, so on-site attendance is not attributed by name.
