The 30 July selection contest was won by S.C. “GRAFIC PRIM” S.R.L., with a project for marking and printing glass objects. At the newspaper's request, the zone administration disclosed the project's figures: a planned investment of 4 million lei and 16 new jobs.
At the 22 July meeting of the European MILEstone project, employers in agriculture, manufacturing and services confirmed, according to the council's statement, their readiness to hire workers from outside the EU, while the District Council is looking for ways to bring to life a Migrant Integration Centre — the first of its kind in a district, according to publicly available information. Behind the announcement stand hard numbers: the district went from 96.471 to 73.971 inhabitants in 12 years, the number of young people aged 20–34 fell by 58%, and in 2025 Nepal became the leading country of origin for foreign workers arriving in Moldova.
The Territorial Employment Structure in Ungheni has set up a “child-friendly space” — a secure area equipped with games and books, where young children can stay supervised while their parents, especially mothers, attend job interviews or retraining courses. The idea starts from a real barrier: many women postpone returning to work because they have no one to leave their child with during visits to the office. The space was created through a project of the International Labour Organization, funded by the Government of Switzerland.
On 25 June, the “Avanti” association ran the “LevelUP Career Fest 2026” career fair at the Ungheni District Youth Centre: nearly 200 young people and more than 20 employers, direct conversations, CVs handed in on the spot, and hands-on sessions on job-hunting with digital tools. The association’s bet — to show young people real locals who stayed and made it. Germany’s ambassador, the mayor and the district president dropped by too.
The “National Entrepreneurship Tour” stopped in Ungheni, with officials and speeches about opportunity. Beyond the event, though, the question that matters for an Ungheni resident with a business is plainer: how much state support for entrepreneurs actually reaches the district. The answer is in the open data — in 2024, nine firms from the Ungheni district drew ODA grants worth 3.81 million lei, more than neighbouring districts. And that in a year when the district lost both jobs and turnover.
On 14–16 July, in Ungheni, people who want to start a business — or have just started one — from the Ungheni, Fălești, Nisporeni and Călărași districts can learn for free, from specialists, how to keep a firm afloat. The programme, funded from European money, has reached its eighth round. The hook isn't festive, though: in the Ungheni district, businesses employed over 700 fewer people in 2024 than in 2021, and wages remain a fifth below the national average.
