On August 26, the International Youth Conference opened in Ungheni — an event organized for the first time in the municipality. Over three days, young people from seven cities twinned with Ungheni, from Romania, Ukraine, Lithuania, and Portugal, are meeting with delegations from seven towns in the Republic of Moldova for discussions, workshops, and exchange of experience.
Who is participating
The conference was opened by Mayor Vitalie Vrabie, who, according to the city hall’s communication, noted that Ungheni “once again demonstrates that it is a city of youth and for youth” and expressed his wish to see more young people in decision-making bodies.
Among the announced guests for the three days are the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Grosu, the mayors of Cluj-Napoca, Reghin, and Tulcea in Romania, as well as the deputy mayor of Joniskis, Lithuania.
The event is organized by the Ungheni Municipal Youth Center, led by Elena Burlacu, with the support of the Ungheni City Hall, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and the organization Youth Wave.
Violeta Gavriliuc, head of the Ungheni Education Directorate, also attended the conference, noting that for the educational community “such events represent an important opportunity to support the active participation of young people.”
Context
The conference takes place in the same period as the Ungheni City Days (August 27–31), which include Independence Day, the city’s patron saint day, and various cultural events.
