On Sunday, 5 July, all four first-leg matches of the quarter-finals of the Ungheni district football cup, «MAGIRUS» 2026, were played. According to the Ungheni Territorial Football Association (ATF), the competition’s organiser, the results were:

  • FC Sculeni – FC Zagarancea 1-0 — Sculeni stadium
  • FC Regina Maria Ungheni – FC Unirea Cetireni 2-0 — Ungheni Municipal Stadium
  • FC Mănoilești – FC Speranța Semeni 2-1 — Mănoilești stadium
  • FC Haiduc Bumbăta – FC Barsa Ungheni 5-2 — Bumbăta stadium

Like the rest of the «MAGIRUS» Cup, the quarter-finals are played over two legs — home and away — and this was only the first half of each tie. The four pairs will produce the semi-finalists, after the return legs that should be played a week from now.

Who took the lead, and who left it all open

The round’s biggest score came from FC Haiduc Bumbăta, who beat FC Barsa Ungheni 5-2 at home — a result that gives them a serious cushion before the return. The second solid lead belongs to FC Regina Maria Ungheni, 2-0 winners over FC Unirea Cetireni at the Municipal Stadium. We covered that tie separately, and it now also has the organiser’s official confirmation: at Cetireni, a week from now, they will have two goals to make up.

The other two quarter-finals, by contrast, remain wide open. FC Sculeni beat FC Zagarancea 1-0, and FC Mănoilești won 2-1 against FC Speranța Semeni — one-goal leads that the return leg can easily wipe out. For all four ties, the reckoning comes only after the second leg, when the aggregate score counts.

The football that ties the district’s villages together

The «MAGIRUS» Cup is the competition that, summer after summer, ties together the teams of the town and the district’s villages — Sculeni, Zagarancea, Mănoilești, Semeni, Bumbăta, Cetireni. At this level, a quarter-final is not a formality: it draws people to the edge of the pitch, and a return leg with a place in the semi-finals at stake becomes, for a week, the village’s match. Sunday’s round left four live ties, in which only Bumbăta and Regina Maria hold a lead to protect — the rest is replayed from scratch.

The results of the four first-leg matches come from the official announcement of the Ungheni Territorial Football Association, organiser of the «MAGIRUS» Cup, on its Facebook page. The score in the Regina Maria – Unirea Cetireni tie, which we initially reported on the basis of the Cetireni club’s statement, is now confirmed by the organiser. The photographs come from the organiser’s official album, the Ungheni Territorial Football Association. The aggregate result of each tie will be decided in the return leg, which should be played a week from now.
