In the west of the Ungheni district, administrative reform takes an important step today: it leaves the meeting rooms and reaches people. The five mayoralties negotiating a merger — the commune of Pîrlița and the villages of Agronomovca, Alexeevca, Rădenii Vechi and Teșcureni — have reached the stage of consulting citizens.
On Tuesday, 7 July, several of these localities are holding public assemblies to present residents with the „Development Vision” of the future administrative-territorial unit — the document describing what the new merged mayoralty would look like and do. In Rădenii Vechi, the village general assembly is scheduled for this evening, at 6 p.m., at the Cultural Centre. In the commune of Pîrlița, consultations were held the same day.
Why this step matters
Until now, the Pîrlița-area merger had been discussed among officials: at the start of the month, the five mayoralties held a second joint working meeting, with the working groups and the Government’s local representative. Back then, only one thing had been announced as certain — that the consultation of citizens would follow. That step is happening now.
The difference is not formal. „Voluntary amalgamation” means merging several small mayoralties into one, and „voluntary” implies that the localities decide for themselves whether to join — usually after public consultations and a vote of the local councils. The Rădenii Vechi assembly is exactly the moment when residents can say what they think: according to the mayoralty, their proposals and recommendations will be recorded, and the substantiated ones may enter the final version of the Development Vision.
The final decisions remain with the local councils of each locality. But the shape they will take is being drawn, from today, with the voice of the people from the five villages too.
