About

A newspaper for Ungheni, verified from three sources

Triunghi.md is an independent local newspaper for the Ungheni district. We cover what happens at home — town hall, the border, schools, roads, public money — with a cool head and a backbone.

For now, the newsroom's only person.

Ion (Nalyk) Calmîș is the founder and editor-in-chief of Triunghi.md — for now, the newsroom's only person. He has worked at the intersection of journalism and technology in the Republic of Moldova for over two decades, and the road began right here in Ungheni: he was a reporter at the Ungheni newspaper Unghiul, where he promoted the idea of an online edition and built the publication's first website. Today he is CTO of Studio Technologies, the company that built and maintains the platforms of the country's most-read newsrooms — unimedia.info, jurnal.md, jurnaltv.md and tvrmoldova.md. He also co-founded the newsroom Replica Media (replicamedia.md, 2021–2023). In parallel, he is Head of AI Ecosystem at Esempla Systems, the company behind Moldova's GovStack infrastructure. At Triunghi.md he puts all of this experience — and artificial intelligence, used at scale — in the service of local journalism built on source triangulation (People, Documents, Data) and on impartiality.

We triangulate every story — People · Documents · Data

Why “Triunghi” (Triangle)

The name comes from our method. We verify every story against three independent sources: people (witnesses, officials, experts), documents (official acts, reports, lawfully obtained public data) and data (figures, statistics, measurements). The triangle beside each story shows how many of the three corners are confirmed.

Many local stories legitimately rest on one or two sources. We don’t hide that — we show it. When a corner is still “searching”, we say openly that we’ll come back to it.

Principles

  • Local first. What matters to a person in Ungheni, not to a Facebook headline.
  • Sources, not rumours. We name people and show the documents.
  • We correct in the open. We make mistakes, we own them, we fix them — in the corrections log.
  • Trilingual. Romanian, Russian and English, for the whole community on both banks of the Prut.
