Some achievements do not fit into a single medal. At the National Sport Tourism Championship for cadets and juniors, held on 24–28 June near the village of Trebujeni in Orhei district, athletes from Ungheni’s Town Station of Young Tourists (SOTT) won all four events: hiking, mountain, water and cycling tourism.
Four different disciplines, four different settings — and, each time, children and teenagers from Ungheni up on the podium. For an out-of-school education institution in a district town, it is the kind of result that confirms a whole school of coaches and field work, not a stroke of luck on one day.
What they won, in brief
In water tourism, the juniors took first and third place by team, plus a series of individual kayak medals — among them first in the single kayak (Ion Olaru) and first in the mixed double kayak (Doina Trofailă and Ion Olaru). Coach: Ruslan Zănoagă.
In mountain tourism, the cadet team took first place and the junior team second, prepared by coaches Raisa Iurii and Ivan Atamaniuc.
In cycling tourism, on the figures-course event, the Ungheni athletes gathered team gold among both cadets and juniors, plus individual wins.

Why it matters for Ungheni
Sport tourism is not a showcase discipline. It means orienteering, endurance, teamwork and time spent in nature — exactly the skills a district town wants for its young people, as an alternative to the screen and the street. The fact that a district station of young tourists beats teams from across the country in every event says something about what can be built with dedicated coaches and children who want it.
For Ungheni’s parents, the news also has a practical conclusion: at SOTT, children do not just “do sport” — they reach the national podium. And for the town, it is one more confirmation that Ungheni remains a serious name on the map of sport tourism in the Republic of Moldova.
