Apă-Canal Ungheni suspended drinking water supply on Friday, 17 July, for a group of addresses in the centre of the municipality — the second day in a row, over the same leak. This time, the list of affected consumers published by the operator also includes Ungheni District Hospital.
The intervention began on Thursday, 16 July. The operator had announced it then for the 09.00–16.00 window — seven hours — and explained it as the elimination of a leak on the water main 500 millimetres in diameter at 8 Vasile Lupu Street. On Friday morning, Apă-Canal said the works were not finished:

The new deadline communicated was 17.00, “estimated”.
Who is left without water
Friday’s notice lists: 1, 3 and 6 Vasile Lupu Street; 28 and 67 Mihai Eminescu Street; Kaufland; Ungheni District Hospital; Baștina-Prut LLC.
Thursday’s list contained exactly the same addresses, with a single difference: the hospital did not appear on it. The difference allows two explanations, both plausible — the shut-off perimeter may have widened on the second day, or the hospital was affected on Thursday too, without being put on the list. Which of them matches reality can be said only by the operator. It also holds the other missing facts: what the “unforeseen technical complications” consisted of, how old the 500-millimetre main is, and whether the water was restored overnight, between the two announced windows.
There is no public information about the effect of the interruption on medical activity at Ungheni District Hospital.
270 unplanned interruptions in one year
The context is provided by the operator’s own mandatory reporting. In its report on performance indicators for 2024, Apă-Canal Ungheni records 270 unplanned interruptions in the water supply — of which 268 were resolved within the regulatory deadline — and 10.773 consumers affected by them, 10.409 households and 364 non-households. Planned interruptions, in the same year, numbered 38.
The two figures say different things. Planned interruptions are announced in advance: all 38 were resolved within the regulatory deadline. The unplanned ones are failures — they arrive without notice, and in 2024 there were more than seven times as many.
