FCM Ungheni drew 0-0 in a friendly against Dacia Buiucani, a club from the top tier of Moldovan football. The match was played on Saturday, 13 June, in Chișinău, at the Joma Arena pitch, the Ungheni club announced on its official Facebook page.
For the city’s team, the result is anything but ordinary. FCM Ungheni play in Liga 1, the second tier of Moldovan football, while Dacia Buiucani are a level above — in Liga 7777, the country’s top flight. Keeping a higher-division side off the scoresheet is a level test passed with credit as summer preparations get under way.
What “Liga 7777” actually is
In its post, the club noted that Dacia Buiucani “play in Liga 7777” — a name that may puzzle some readers. It is no obscure competition: “Liga 7777.md” is in fact the official commercial name of the top tier, the former Super Liga. Since the 2025/2026 season, after a deal between the Moldovan Football Federation and NGM, the company that runs the 7777.md brand, the elite competition has carried this name.
In other words, FCM Ungheni measured themselves against a first-division side — and held firm.
A serious opponent, mid-preparation
Dacia Buiucani, a club from the capital’s Buiucani district, were promoted to the top tier as Liga 1 champions in 2024/2025. For the new Liga 7777 season, which kicks off on 27–28 June 2026 with eight teams, the Chișinău side are among the entrants, alongside names such as Sheriff, Zimbru, Petrocub and Milsami.
That is exactly why this is the time of training camps and friendlies: both teams are running in their squads before the start. A goalless draw in such a context says more about defensive solidity and the state of preparation than about any settled balance of power.
Where the city’s team stands
FCM Ungheni, the city’s municipal club, come off a 2025/2026 season in which they fell just short of promotion. In the competition’s second phase, the side coached by Dorin Bambuleac finished top of their group, but missed the jump to the top flight — they were knocked out in the play-offs, beaten 5-4 by FC Florești on 16 May.
That run is what gives a routine June friendly its stakes. The city’s team are not on the pitch to make up the numbers; they are preparing for a fresh push for promotion. A 0-0 against a top-flight side, at first glance just a number, is a signal to Ungheni’s supporters that the squad is starting its preparation from solid ground.
The club had not made public the line-up tested in Chișinău or the full schedule of friendlies as of publication.
