By 24 October, the heating had been turned on in 16 mayoralties of Ungheni district, according to the mayors’ orders published in the State Register of Local Acts. The acts name kindergartens, mayoralty buildings, the cultural centre in Unțești and the firefighters post in Sculeni; other acts turn on the heating in all institutions subordinated to the mayoralty, without naming them. In Ungheni municipality there is, as of 24 October, no public order to start the heating. Last year, the order was dated 8 October, and the heating was turned on on 9 October.
No start-of-heating act from this year names a school, a gymnasium or an apartment block.
Where it is warm and since when
Bușila was the first: from 1 October, at the „Prichindel” kindergarten, as last year. On 15 October came Sculeni (the kindergartens in Sculeni, Floreni, Gherman and Blindești, the firefighters post and the mayoralty, on firewood and coal), Chirileni, Măgurele, Rădenii Vechi (the „Andrieș” kindergarten-nursery and the mayoralty) and Todirești (the „Auraș” and „Lăstărel” kindergartens; the mayoralty from 19 October), then Petrești, on 16 October, in the budget-funded institutions and at the mayoralty.
Between 19 and 22 October the heating was turned on in Pîrlița, Bumbăta, Zăgărancea (only the mayoralty building), Cornova (the „Andrieș” kindergarten), Agronomovca, Condrătești, Unțești (the mayoralty, the cultural centre and the „Deceluș” kindergarten), Morenii Noi and Costuleni (the mayoralty and the „Floricica” kindergarten, on gas). In Pîrlița, the act cites “the drop in night-time temperature”.
Two more start dates are on the calendar: on Monday, 26 October, at the mayoralty and the cultural centre in Cornova and at the „Copilăria” kindergarten-nursery in Grozasca, Florițoaia Veche commune. Last year, the Florițoaia Veche act also covered the kindergarten in the village of Florițoaia Veche; in the 2026 act, it does not appear.
Compared with last year
Of the 16 mayoralties that have started so far, 14 also had in 2025 an act with a legible start date. In 12 of them, the heating started later this year, by 2 to 14 days: in Sculeni, Todirești, Petrești, Costuleni and Cornova, by nine days; in Agronomovca, by 14. In Bușila and Măgurele, the date is the same as in 2025.
Schools, apartment blocks and cost
The schools. Gymnasiums and lyceums do not appear in any start-of-heating act: their founder is the District Council, and from 1 January 2027 they move to the territorial agency for education. The District Council has no start-of-heating act for 2026 in the register as of 24 October. In 2025, its order of 10 October started the heating from 13 October in the Council’s buildings, without naming the schools. The public sources consulted on 24 October do not show from what date the schools in the district have heating.
The apartment blocks in the municipality. In 2025, order No. 380-02/1-7 of the Mayor of Ungheni municipality started the season from 9 October and named the director of SA „Comgaz-Plus” as responsible for implementation. In 2026, the mayoralty’s series of orders is published in the register up to No. 306 of 16 October, with no start-of-heating act. An order of 30 September, No. 279-02/1-7, on saving energy in the mayoralty building, refers to a future order “on the start of the heating season in Ungheni municipality”. On the mayoralty website there is, as of 24 October, no announcement about the heating being turned on, nor about the day the kindergartens in the town and the apartment blocks connected to Comgaz-Plus will receive heat.
The cost. The acts do not say how much the heating costs. The only amount appears in Chirileni, in the three orders hiring stokers on half-time: 3,150 lei calculated for each stoker (1,450 lei basic salary, plus a 650-lei bonus and a 1,050-lei compensatory payment).
On 24 October, the newsroom sent the Ungheni Municipality Mayoralty and the Education Directorate of the District Council requests for information, under Law No. 148/2023, about the date the heating starts in institutions and in apartment blocks, the list of institutions and the cost.
How we counted: we harvested from the State Register of Local Acts all the acts of the mayoralties of Ungheni district and of the District Council issued between 20 September and 24 October, in 2025 and in 2026, and opened the start-of-heating acts, plus those with generic titles related to energy or fuel. The start date is the one written in the text of each act, not the date of issue. In 2026, 17 mayoralties have a start-of-heating act: 16 started by 24 October, and Florițoaia Veche starts on 26 October. The other 16 mayoralties had no start-of-heating act published in the register as of 24 October; not all of their acts allocating money were read, and a mayoralty may have issued its order without publishing it yet.
