On June 18, the team of the «YK ImPuls» Youth-Friendly Health Centre in Ungheni, together with specialists from the territorial social-assistance service, ran a training seminar dedicated to parenting skills and the balance between family and professional life. The announcement, posted on the centre’s Facebook page, sounds like a routine activity. Set against the district’s figures, however, it becomes something else: a response to a pressure that many families in Ungheni feel every day.
What the seminar covered
According to the organisers, the discussions touched on the balance between family and work, the challenges of combining family responsibilities with professional ones, identifying stress factors, and practical solutions for managing time and energy. On the screen in the room, the topic was summed up directly — «The Balance between Family and Work», presented as «the key to a healthy, productive and fulfilled life». Participants worked through interactive exercises and hands-on activities.
The post is the institutions’ own account and does not state how many people attended, who they were, or whether the seminar will continue. The «DAY I» tag in the announcement suggests a series, but this is not officially confirmed.
Why it matters in Ungheni
Behind a course on «balance» lie hard numbers. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, in 2024 Ungheni district recorded 466 marriages and 341 divorces (provisional data) — almost 73 divorces for every 100 marriages. At the same time, the birth rate is falling: 732 children were born in the district in 2025, compared with 1,196 in 2019, a drop of about 39% in six years.
To this is added departures. Ungheni remains an area of net emigration — in 2024, more than 4,700 people left the district, more than those who returned. For many families, the «work–family balance» is not an office concept but the reality in which one parent works abroad while the child is left in the care of the other parent or of the grandparents. In a district of about 74,500 residents, this is a background pressure, not an exception.
Who the two institutions are
«YK ImPuls» is the district’s Youth-Friendly Health Centre, hosted within the Family Doctors’ Centre in Ungheni. It is part of the national network of such centres, methodologically coordinated by the «NEOVITA» Centre, and offers young people aged 10–24 free and confidential services, from counselling to health care. The centres are contracted through compulsory health insurance (CNAM), and a youth support line also operates at the national level.
The partner is the territorial social-assistance body. After the reform of recent years, the former district directorates were reorganised into structures subordinated to the Centre-West Territorial Social Assistance Agency, based in Ungheni, which covers the districts of Ungheni, Călărași and Nisporeni. This institution sets and pays social benefits and is the territorial guardianship authority in the field of child protection — that is, exactly the structure that steps in when a family runs into difficulty.
The fact that precisely these two public services — one for youth health, the other for family protection — sit down at the same table on the topic of parental stress is a matter of prevention: reaching families before a crisis, not only after it has broken out. How often such meetings will be repeated and how many Ungheni residents will go through them remains, for now, unspecified.
