Founder and editor-in-chief of Triunghi.md. Ion (Nalyk) Calmîș has worked at the intersection of journalism and technology in the Republic of Moldova for over two decades — a road that began in Ungheni, as a reporter at the newspaper Unghiul. He is CTO of Studio Technologies, the company behind the platforms of some of the country's most-read newsrooms (unimedia.info, jurnal.md, jurnaltv.md, tvrmoldova.md), and Head of AI Ecosystem at Esempla Systems (Moldova's GovStack infrastructure); he co-founded the newsroom Replica Media. At Triunghi.md he puts that experience — and artificial intelligence, at scale — in the service of local journalism built on source triangulation (People, Documents, Data) and on impartiality.
Twelve weightlifters from the Ungheni Sports School for Children and Juniors, pupils at the Ion Creangă, Mihai Eminescu and Gheorghe Asachi lyceums, came back from the international cadet tournament „Bălți Mayor's Cup” (8–11 October 2026) with 3 first, 4 second and 3 third places, the school says.
In the Ungheni Deal neighbourhood, installation of a new street-lighting cable and 200 lamps is starting after RED-Nord replaced the electricity poles, Ungheni City Hall says. The work, carried out by Servicii Comunale Ungheni, will take 3–4 weeks, and the lights will come back in stages, street by street.
The yellow code for heavy rain issued by the Meteorology Authority for Friday, 23 October (10.00–21.00, 15–49 l/m²), has expired. According to the hydrological warning of 23 October, the rain will not significantly change the situation on the Prut: from 24 to 30 October, on the Costești – Brânza section, which includes Ungheni, the river is at 20–30% of the long-term average, orange code.
The educational concert “Children Sing Bach”, part of the J. S. Bach International Festival, comes to the “Doina and Ion Aldea-Teodorovici” Arts School in Cornești, Ungheni district, on 18 November at 15.30. Admission is free, the Organ Hall announced.
Small and medium-sized enterprises in Ungheni can apply by 1 December 2026 to join the HR Toolkit Programme, implemented by GIZ. The programme offers recruitment templates, workshops and mentoring for hiring and retaining young people, has 30 places for six localities and is not a grant competition.
On the plot between Înfrățirii Square and the Episcopal Cathedral, the underground utility networks and the paths have been built and the ground has been levelled, Ungheni City Hall announces. The work is carried out by SRL “Servicii Comunale Ungheni”, and the infrastructure costs are covered by City Hall, according to the same source. The European project funding the garden, worth 303.802,50 euros, is due to end on 11 December 2026.
The District Council announces that Ungheni is one of the two districts chosen nationwide for a three-year pilot project, funded by Italy, that prepares small and medium-sized farmers for European rules. The project has 4 million euros for the whole country; how farmers can sign up has not yet been announced.
The team of the Ungheni Sports School for Children and Juniors, 42 athletes trained by coach Iurii Cebaniuc, won 8 first places, 11 second places and 7 third places at the Chișinău municipal open championship in traditional karate-do, dedicated to the capital’s patron day, Ungheni City Hall reports. A total of 169 athletes took part.
The National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) is distributing rabies vaccine baits for wild foxes by hand between 20 October and 2 November 2026. The agency recommends leaving baits where they are found or moving them with gloves, and keeping dogs and cats from roaming freely for two weeks in areas where baits were laid. Ungheni district had three rabies outbreaks between late July and mid-August.
