Founder and editor-in-chief of Triunghi.md. Ion (Nalyk) Calmîș has worked at the intersection of journalism and technology in the Republic of Moldova for over two decades — a road that began in Ungheni, as a reporter at the newspaper Unghiul. He is CTO of Studio Technologies, the company behind the platforms of some of the country's most-read newsrooms (unimedia.info, jurnal.md, jurnaltv.md, tvrmoldova.md), and Head of AI Ecosystem at Esempla Systems (Moldova's GovStack infrastructure); he co-founded the newsroom Replica Media. At Triunghi.md he puts that experience — and artificial intelligence, at scale — in the service of local journalism built on source triangulation (People, Documents, Data) and on impartiality.

Government creates a separate agency for schools in Ungheni district, taking over as founder from 2027

On 21 October, the Government approved the establishment of 34 territorial agencies for education, which take over schools from the district councils. Ungheni district gets its own agency, headquartered in the municipality of Ungheni, which becomes the founder of the primary schools, gymnasiums, lyceums and special education institutions in the district from 1 January 2027. According to the draft decision, the agency will have 24 staff positions, compared with 26 in the district subdivisions being reorganized.

Feroviară 3/1 passes to the municipality: Government transfers to Ungheni the buildings of state enterprise “Servicii pază” and the land under them

The Government approved on 21 October, according to the Municipal Hall, the free transfer to the municipality of Ungheni of the 0.022-hectare plot on Feroviară Street 3/1 and the two buildings on it. The police plot on the same street, also requested by the Municipal Council, was left out of the project, as it is land with a special purpose.

Bond-funded streets: Servicii Comunale Ungheni wins all 4 lots, at 8.44 million lei excluding VAT

The tender for the streets repaired with Ungheni’s municipal bonds is over: SRL Servicii Comunale Ungheni won all 4 lots, with bids of 8.44 million lei excluding VAT, 1.17 million below the 9.61 million estimate. Including VAT, the contracts total 10.12 million lei. Mayoral orders set the start of works on 8 October, on Stamati, Bălțeni, Națională and Solidarității streets and in the Palace of Culture area.

Ungheni's lakeside promenade on Lake Delia, over 470 metres long, is now paved. Cycle lanes and green areas come next

Paving has been laid on the promenade of more than 470 metres along Lake Delia, the Ungheni City Hall says. Pedestrian areas, cycle lanes, green spaces and spots for trade are still to come. The contract with the company Balt-Cons is worth 5,759,683 lei including VAT, and Cluj-Napoca's share is transferred after the works are formally accepted.

Ungheni chess tournament: the host municipality tops the locality ranking

The “Șahul UNește” tournament was played on 25 October in Independence Square, Ungheni, with 380 players, according to the tournament page. Ungheni municipality finished first in the locality ranking, level on points with the village of Măgdăcești in Criuleni district. Ungheni district had the most players: 153.
