All 10,000 municipal bonds issued by Ungheni — at 1,000 lei each — were fully subscribed within days of the public offering opening on August 10. On August 26, a working group of municipal councilors from all factions selected 5 streets — 2.5 kilometers, 23,000 square meters — and launched the procurement: the 4 lots, worth a total of 9.61 million lei, are now listed on MTender. The city hall's announcement names the streets, and the procurement documents on MTender also show the estimated cost per lot.

36.7 million lei for 2.14 km: Ungheni's Alexandru cel Bun street goes into reconstruction

On 20 July the Consiliul raional Ungheni (the Ungheni District Council) awarded the contract for rebuilding the stretch between Romană street and the Oleg Ungureanu — Decebal junction, part of district road L389. The works cost 36 677 184 lei including VAT — 17 139 lei for every metre of street — and went to SA „Drumuri Bălți”, the only company that submitted a bid. The bill is not the district's alone, however: an agreement approved by the two councils splits the cost 75% district and 25% town hall, and the streets in question passed into district ownership only in 2023, handed over free of charge by the town.

The Sculeni commune hall announced on 23 July the start of works to modernise Burebista Street, through a government programme for repairing local roads, “Europe is Near”. The project, approved by the council in May 2025 after consultations with residents, was put out to a tender worth over 4 million lei, to which five firms applied — but the winner is not yet public, and the procedure went through a challenge upheld in full by the disputes authority. This is a different Burebista Street from the one refurbished in Ungheni.

Cornești lays 960 metres of gravel streets in the „white variant”: what it means and why it isn't asphalt

The Cornești Town Hall announced on 23 July that it had finished „white-variant” repairs on three streets — 2 Decembrie, Stejarului lane and Stejarului street — some 960 metres in all. Ungheni City Hall announced on Friday that it had paved two more streets in the Ungheni Vale neighbourhood — Arcașii lui Ștefan and Suceava, 850 metres, „from the City Hall budget”. One of them, Arcașii lui Ștefan, appears however on the list of roads that the Municipal Council approved in May to be modernised from the 10-million-lei loan raised through municipal bonds — money that the people of Ungheni will repay, with interest. The decision publishes only the total ceiling, not how much each street costs.

Storm-drain work has begun on Decebal street in Ungheni — the first stage in rebuilding the 1,003-metre stretch leading to the free economic zone. Ungheni borrows 10 million lei for roads on the capital market: what municipal bonds are

The town of Ungheni is borrowing 10 million lei to modernise its streets — not through a classic bank loan, but by issuing municipal bonds, that is debt securities that both residents and companies can buy. Mayor Vitalie Vrabie presented the issue at a national event in Chișinău on 1 July, alongside Leova and Ceadîr-Lunga. It is the first time Ungheni has turned to the capital market, and at 10 million lei it becomes the largest issue by a Moldovan town after the capital, from the publicly known figures. The money goes to an already approved list of roads; the interest will be paid, over time, by the local budget — that is, by the people of Ungheni.
