The third conscription stage begins in Ungheni, from a youth pool 64% smaller than ten years ago

The Ungheni Territorial Military Centre has announced that from 22 June it is running the third stage of conscription into compulsory military service — part of a national campaign calling up to 1,200 young men. Beyond the administrative notice, National Bureau of Statistics figures show how shrinking the recruitment pool is: the number of men aged 20–24 in the Ungheni district has fallen by almost two thirds in a decade. Here is what recruits and their families need to know — including the right to deferral and to civilian service.

Moldova's first electrified railway will pass through Ungheni: Bucharest has approved electrifying the line to Iași, with works to 2028

The government in Bucharest has approved the technical-economic indicators for electrifying the railway line between Iași and the border with the Republic of Moldova — the administrative step that opens the way to the design-and-build tender. It is the Romanian half of a cross-border project that will give the Republic of Moldova its first kilometre of electrified railway, right through Ungheni and over the 'Eiffel' bridge across the Prut. For a border-gateway district, it is the most concrete railway promise yet.

17,000 hectares of cereals and farms vanishing from the registers: what the farmers' talk with the PM changes for Ungheni

At the government, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu met farmers and spoke about access to finance, seasonal labour, taxation and the insolvency law. It sounds abstract — until you put it on the map of the Ungheni district: nearly 17,000 hectares of cereals, 10,000 of sunflower, a sector grown to 30,000 hectares, yet carried on the backs of small producers. And on the ground, in Pârlița and Măgurele, town halls are recording drought damage and striking inactive farms off the registers.

Four names on the monument, nine on the state list: the sons of the Ungheni district who fell on the Dniester in 1992

Thirty-four years after the June 1992 battles, the national commemoration of those who fell in the War of the Dniester can be read on the map of the Ungheni district too. At the monument, the town remembers four names, but the official state list — the “Book of Memory” — shows at least nine men born in the district who died that year, many of them at Tighina, in the very June days now being commemorated. Triunghi.md recovered their names, villages and where they fell.

Yellow heat warning and up to 35 °C: in Ungheni, safe swimming means only the Prut and Delia, where there are lifeguards

The State Hydrometeorological Service has issued a yellow heat warning for 22 June, with highs of up to 35 °C, and IGSU comes with reminders on three fronts: water, fire and health. For people in Ungheni the stake is concrete — since the start of 2026, 18 people have drowned in Moldova, two of them children, and the town has only two swimming spots with lifeguards: the Prut beach and the one on Lake Delia.

Ten years of twinning with Cluj: the hora returns to the stage in Micul Cluj Park

On Sunday, three ensembles turned the stage in Micul Cluj Park into an evening of dance and song, under the “Cultural Summer in the Park” banner of the House of Culture. Beyond the “Hai la Joc și voie bună” show, the story is about how a park named in honour of the twin city of Cluj-Napoca has become, summer after summer, Ungheni's great open-air hall — and the next big event is the Sânziene festival, on 5 July.

Floods move the Sânziene Unghenene festival off Delia island into the city centre, on 5 July

“Sânziene Unghenene”, the flagship festival of the Ungheni summer, cannot return this year to the island on Lake Delia, where it was held in 2025. The Palace of Culture cites the aftermath of the May floods — and the footbridge to the island is still not ready. The 2026 edition comes down on 5 July into the heart of the city, to Scuarul Înfrățirii and Independence Square, with a procession, the Sânziene Hora, folk-costume workshops and the “Sânziana” contest.
