The Micul Cluj Park stage belonged to the children: a free evening of gymnastics and music in Ungheni

On Thursday evening, 9 July, gymnasts from two local studios and young soloists held the audience captive on the Micul Cluj Park stage in Ungheni, at a new evening of the „Vara Culturală-n Parc” (Cultural Summer in the Park) project. Beyond the show, it is about something concrete for the town's families — a free, open-air cultural programme that runs all summer and, this year, carries extra weight: with the House of Culture building going into renovation, the town's main hall has moved outdoors.

The House of Culture in Măcărești is crumbling — and with it the «Hora cu cinci fete» mosaic the state doesn't list as a monument

In the House of Culture of Măcărești village, built in 1972 and closed since 2005, survives «Hora cu cinci fete» (the round dance of five girls) — a monumental mosaic that also gave its name to a book by writer Ștefan Susai. A recent Moldova 1 reportage and a public appeal to the Minister of Culture put the ruined building back in the spotlight. Less has been said, though, that neither the mosaic nor the building appears in the state register of protected monuments — and that a village which drew over 8 million lei through «European Village» for a kindergarten and water lacks the roughly 30 million the mayor puts on paper for restoration.

In Ungheni, state institutions took to their bikes for «VeloVineri», riding the newly rehabilitated Burebista street

On Friday, 10 July 2026, Ungheni's weekly «VeloVineri» ride gathered representatives of the town's deconcentrated institutions, brought together by the head of the Territorial Office, Ion Poia. Mayor Vitalie Vrabie gave the start outside the town hall, and the route took the group to the Dănuțeni neighbourhood, along the newly rehabilitated Burebista street — the same one where the administration launched works worth over 10 million lei this summer. Two weeks after the town hall promised a ride every Friday, the initiative shows it has held up.

On Sunday, four second legs decide the „MAGIRUS” Cup semifinalists — the hardest one in Ungheni

The quarterfinal second legs of the Ungheni district football cup „MAGIRUS” are played on Sunday, 12 July — four matches that decide the semifinalists. The hardest task is FC Bârsa Ungheni's: after a 2-5 first leg against FC Haiduc Bumbăta, it needs a „remontada” at home. The full schedule, kick-off times, venues and what each team has to overturn.

35 million lei for the road to Plaiul Fagului: what is changing in Rădenii Vechi

Ungheni district president Dionisie Ternovschi and the district council's head of construction, Diana Rogovschi, filmed the state of the works on 10 July on the access road to the „Plaiul Fagului” reserve, in the village of Rădenii Vechi. The roughly 35-million-lei worksite has reached the culverts and drainage stage; the gravel road is getting a new foundation, concrete gutters and almost two kilometres of pavement. Placing the site footage next to the procurement document shows how much it costs, who is building it and what the project actually involves.

Two more streets paved in Ungheni Vale, „from the local budget”. One is on the 10-million-lei road list, funded by debt

Ungheni City Hall announced on Friday that it had paved two more streets in the Ungheni Vale neighbourhood — Arcașii lui Ștefan and Suceava, 850 metres, „from the City Hall budget”. One of them, Arcașii lui Ștefan, appears however on the list of roads that the Municipal Council approved in May to be modernised from the 10-million-lei loan raised through municipal bonds — money that the people of Ungheni will repay, with interest. The decision publishes only the total ceiling, not how much each street costs.

An expired technical inspection will automatically suspend your registration — what changes for drivers in Ungheni

On 9 July, Parliament passed, in the second reading, a law that automatically suspends the registration of vehicles with an expired periodic technical inspection or with dangerous defects. When the inspection expires, the suspension applies immediately; for defects, after 30 days during which you may only drive to a garage. Anyone driving with a suspended registration risks fines of up to 1,200 lei and having their plates removed. The law takes effect in six months. For Ungheni residents the stake is concrete: 87 people died on the district's roads over ten years, and the inspection is done in town at just three stations.

Ungheni drinks from the Prut and sends its wastewater into the same river. The town hall has called in the environmental scientists of USM

On 8 July, the town hall of Ungheni signed an agreement with the Institute of Ecology and Geography of the State University of Moldova, on wastewater, ecosystem services and ecological infrastructure. The stake is concrete: the town takes its drinking water from the Prut — for more than 40,000 people — and discharges its wastewater into the basin of the same Prut, through a treatment plant that, according to the town hall's own 2018 strategy, was running on the mechanical stage only. The USM researchers called to Ungheni are precisely the ones who measure how much such a plant degrades the river downstream.
