Founder and editor-in-chief of Triunghi.md. Ion (Nalyk) Calmîș has worked at the intersection of journalism and technology in the Republic of Moldova for over two decades — a road that began in Ungheni, as a reporter at the newspaper Unghiul. He is CTO of Studio Technologies, the company behind the platforms of some of the country's most-read newsrooms (unimedia.info, jurnal.md, jurnaltv.md, tvrmoldova.md), and Head of AI Ecosystem at Esempla Systems (Moldova's GovStack infrastructure); he co-founded the newsroom Replica Media. At Triunghi.md he puts that experience — and artificial intelligence, at scale — in the service of local journalism built on source triangulation (People, Documents, Data) and on impartiality.

How the embroidered shirt became a peace tool in Costuleni: refugee and local women at one festival

The village of Costuleni in Ungheni district hosted the festival "Thread by thread — traditions, peace and hand-sewn shirts," closing a community initiative led by a group of women. Beyond the embroidered shirts on display, the event was the visible end of a project funded by UN Women Moldova through the Women's Peace & Humanitarian Fund — one that uses craft as a bridge between local women and refugee women.

Four communes, one town hall: Sculeni opens consultations, proposals due by July 8

The Sculeni Communal Council has formally launched the draft decision on the voluntary merger of the communes of Sculeni, Cioropcani and Buciumeni (Ungheni district) with Taxobeni (Fălești district). Residents' proposals are being collected between June 23 and July 8, by e-mail or at the town hall, and the notice is posted on the national platform particip.gov.md. It is, however, only an early transparency step — the full draft and the public consultations themselves come later.

€40,000 for ten cities in Moldova and Ukraine: Ungheni is eligible for the EU programme until 16 July

The State Chancellery has opened, for Moldova's towns and municipalities, a call under the European URBACT programme: ten cities from Moldova and Ukraine will each receive €40,000 for a pilot urban project, with a 16 July deadline. Ungheni twins with Izmit in Turkey and opens a world folklore office at its Palace of Culture

Quietly, Ungheni has climbed onto the map of cultural diplomacy: in May it hosted Moldova's first international caravan of the World Folklore Union (IGF), opened an office of the organisation at its Palace of Culture, and signed a twinning agreement with Izmit, a city in Turkey.
