Founder and Editor-in-Chief

Founder and editor-in-chief of Triunghi.md. Ion (Nalyk) Calmîș has worked at the intersection of journalism and technology in the Republic of Moldova for over two decades — a road that began in Ungheni, as a reporter at the newspaper Unghiul. He is CTO of Studio Technologies, the company behind the platforms of some of the country's most-read newsrooms (unimedia.info, jurnal.md, jurnaltv.md, tvrmoldova.md), and Head of AI Ecosystem at Esempla Systems (Moldova's GovStack infrastructure); he co-founded the newsroom Replica Media. At Triunghi.md he puts that experience — and artificial intelligence, at scale — in the service of local journalism built on source triangulation (People, Documents, Data) and on impartiality.

Two goals to claw back: Unirea Cetireni play the home return for a «MAGIRUS» Cup semifinal

In the first leg of the «MAGIRUS» district Cup quarterfinal, played on Sunday at the Ungheni Municipal Stadium, FC Regina Maria Ungheni beat FC Unirea Cetireni 2-0. The Cetireni club admits it «did not play its best game», but points out that everything is decided in the return leg a week from now, at home: to reach the semifinal, the village side must overturn a two-goal deficit.

«Paparudă, rudă, vino de ne udă»: firefighters close out the children's summer at an Ungheni library

At Branch No. 2 of the Ungheni city library, a week of summer activities ended on Friday with a demonstration by Emergency Situations firefighters — the truck, the gear and the water jet — followed by the old «Paparuda», the rain-calling ritual. It looks like holiday play; it is, in fact, one node of a national prevention campaign through which IGSU has trained more than 121,000 children since the start of the school year. It reached the children of Ungheni too, days after an orange-code heatwave.

Ungheni Vocational School opens 2026 admission: nine trades and an online application from 20 July

The district's only vocational school has announced its 2026 admission: nine trades — from welder, electrician and car mechanic to IT operator and dual-system seamstress — with applications filed from 20 July, exclusively online, through the national platform eadmitere.sime.md. Behind it lies a state bet: for the 2026–2027 school year the Government approved 12,282 state-funded places in vocational education, of which 2,669 are in the dual system — 535 more than last year. Here is what you can study, which documents you need, how much the file costs and who has priority.

Trap calls targeting the elderly: the bill requiring operators to block them has passed first reading

The opposition bill that would require telephone operators to detect and block calls with a spoofed number — the ones used above all to trick the elderly — passed its first reading in Parliament on 2 July, and for the second reading it will be merged with the Government’s “SIM card only with your ID” project. The same day, MPs also backed the creation of a National Anti-Fraud Focal Point, after the report of an inquiry commission that put 2025 fraud damage at a record of about 272 million lei. For Ungheni, where lonely elderly people are the favourite target of the “relative in trouble” or “from the bank” scheme, the spoofed number is precisely the trap.

America Turns 250. What Connects It to Ungheni — from an Oscar to a Fire Station

On 4 July, American Corner Ungheni marked «Freedom 250» — 250 years since U.S. independence. Behind a one-day reception, however, lies a story few people in Ungheni know: a screenwriter born in Ungheni wrote «The Apartment» and won an Oscar in Hollywood; in 1877 the Russo-Turkish war passed through Ungheni station, and an American officer wrote about it; from the old market town people left for New York and Philadelphia. And over the past three decades, America has left concrete traces — from bus stops and a fire station to an «American Corner» in the library. A documented inventory of what has been confirmed and what remains legend.

Ten Ungheni students with straight 10s honoured at the first excellence gala — and there are now six at the Baccalaureate, not four

On Friday, the Ungheni District Council held the first edition of its «Ungheni — Where Excellence Inspires» gala and awarded a diploma, a cash prize and flowers to ten students who scored a final mark of 10 in every national exam: six high-school graduates and four from lower secondary. Meanwhile, the final Baccalaureate results have raised the number of Ungheni students with straight 10s from four, as the preliminary data showed, to six — and this time one of them is a boy.

16 pairs of boots, 12 bibs and 2,000 lei: a former player kits out the Măcărești girls and FCM Ungheni's juniors

Eugen Șarpațchii, a name from the town team's squad two decades ago, has given back to the football he grew up in: he donated 16 pairs of boots and 12 training bibs to the girls of Măcărești and 2,000 lei to FCM Ungheni's U11 and U12 groups. This is no donation to a „charity case” — the girls' team of the „Elada” high school in Măcărești reached the national final of the „Speranța” tournament this spring. A former player helping those who come after him, and a village girls' side that already plays in the country's age-group elite.

Stephen the Great brought to the stage in „Micul Cluj” Park: a new show in Ungheni's „Cultural Summer”

On Wednesday evening, 2 July, the stage in „Micul Cluj” Park in Ungheni hosted the show „On the Trail of Stephen the Voivode,” dedicated to the memory of Stephen the Great and Holy. Through music, poetry, theatre and folk dance, local ensembles brought history to life before the audience. It is the latest evening in the Palace of Culture's „Cultural Summer in the Park” project, which year after year turns the park twinned with Cluj into the town's open-air stage.

Not just the municipality: a second wave of town-hall mergers is forming around Pîrlița in the Ungheni district

While the municipality of Ungheni negotiates a union with ten surrounding localities, a second nucleus of voluntary amalgamation is taking shape in the west of the district: Pîrlița, together with Agronomovca, Alexeevca, Rădenii Vechi and Teșcureni, held a second joint working meeting on the subject. Around the table were the working groups of the five town halls and the Government's territorial representative, Ion Poia. Administrative reform is no longer an abstract discussion — concrete maps are being drawn.
