CTP Cluj-Napoca donated two Renault coaches and a Ford minibus to the municipality of Ungheni. With today's batch, total transport donations reach eight vehicles in ten years of cooperation.
The Ungheni District Council announced on 20 August that the town will host the third stage of the National Off-Road Championship, organised by the 'Bizon Off Road Ungheni' Public Association. The ministry's sports calendar had scheduled the stage for 29–30 August; the District Council indicates 22–23 August.
Ungheni does a lot for young people — and that is good. But a focus group hosted on 16 August by the District Youth Centre brought to light something rarer: the district calls its young people to the table of decisions too, not just to events. Behind it lies an infrastructure built up over time — a Youth Council with 35 members, drawn from at least half of the district's localities, forums, a co-participation conference with the mayors — and a centre that does not wait for young people but goes after them, all the way to the village. What is more, between 2016 and 2017, young people had a fund of their own, run by themselves — in a district where the number of young people has almost halved in a decade.
FCM Ungheni claimed their first win of the season on Saturday, at the town stadium, beating CF Univer 6-2 in the third round of Liga 1. The town's side led 5-1 by the break — Dmitri Maneacov scored twice, with Florin Cojocaru, Stanislav Sarain and Andrei Stratan completing the first half — before Bogdan Placinta set the final score in stoppage time. On Ștefan cel Mare street in Ungheni, the busy stretch between the former biochemical plant and Podurilor street is getting a pavement — the first on this section, according to City Hall: about 800 metres long, 2 metres wide. The work, done by the municipal company «Servicii Comunale Ungheni», has reached its final stretch and should be ready for the city's festival at the end of August; the road markings and the shaping of the shoulder still remain. The pavement is one item on a list of roads the city is paying for in 2026 with money borrowed through municipal bonds.
Less than three months after Lake Delia overflowed and destroyed the footbridge to Ungheni's leisure island, the Municipality has announced a new cable-stayed suspension bridge with an ash-wood deck and a resurfaced access road. Mayor Vitalie Vrabie inspected the site on 13 August; the aim is for the island to be ready in September. The announcement comes with a safety warning for parents: the bridge "is not a swing." Gabriel Mironiuc, an 11-year-old pupil at the “Alexandr Pușkin” Lyceum in Ungheni, was the best-placed player from the Republic of Moldova in his section at the “Open Bohumín” international chess festival, held in July in the Czech Republic. The section — a classical FIDE-rated tournament — had 26 participants. Ungheni City Hall announced a bronze medal for him. He trains at the Ungheni Sports School — a town with a chess tradition that hosted, in 2021, a simultaneous exhibition with former world champion Anatoly Karpov.
