Ion (Nalyk) Calmîș has worked at the intersection of journalism and technology in the Republic of Moldova for over two decades — a road that began in Ungheni, as a reporter at the newspaper Unghiul. He is CTO of Studio Technologies, the company behind the platforms of some of the country's most-read newsrooms (unimedia.info, jurnal.md, jurnaltv.md, tvrmoldova.md), and Head of AI Ecosystem at Esempla Systems (Moldova's GovStack infrastructure); he co-founded the newsroom Replica Media. At Triunghi.md he puts that experience — and artificial intelligence, at scale — in the service of local journalism built on source triangulation (People, Documents, Data) and on impartiality.

Two major motocross rounds at Ungheni: the national championship on 30 August, the Balkan one in September

On 30 August, in Ungheni, the third of the five rounds of the Republic of Moldova motocross championship is contested: start at 11.00, free entry. The track in the Valea Rusului area, opened in August 2025, is being rebuilt after torrential rain. And on 19–20 September, in the same place, the Republic of Moldova's only round of the Balkan Championship is run — one of the nine, in six countries.

What changes in Ungheni under the two states of alert: shop windows go dark at 18.00, drinking water no longer washes the streets

On 28 July the Government declared a national state of alert in the energy sector and a state of hydrological alert, both for 30 days. On 3 August, the National Crisis Management Commission adopted two binding decisions: the administrators of public buildings and commercial premises switch off fountains, shop windows and decorative lighting between 18.00 and 06.00 and cut at least 30% of their interior lighting, while drinking water from public systems may no longer be used to wash streets or fill swimming pools. In blocks of flats with lifts, a notice must be posted on the ground floor. The next day, for the evening of 4 August, the power system had a forecast deficit in commercial terms between 21.00 and 23.00.

276 million lei for the six mergers in Ungheni district. The municipal group takes 157.5

On 4 August the Government said how much it gives per head for mayoralty mergers: 3,000 lei. That figure is only the first term of the real formula. Applied to Ungheni district, with the National Bureau of Statistics table by locality, the three incentives yield 276.7 million lei for the six amalgamation groups — 157.5 million for the group around the municipality alone. It also explains the figure of 278 million announced on 31 July by the head of the Ungheni Territorial Office. The press release does not mention that second term, and the largest part of the money is conditional on a law that has not yet been published.

313 building permits and certificates in Ungheni district. From 2027, issued only digitally

The chief architect's briefing note, presented on Tuesday to the Ungheni District Council, sets out how many permissive acts the district's mayoralties issued in 2025: 150 urban planning certificates for design, 95 building permits, 32 demolition permits, 31 informative certificates and 5 change-of-use permits. The document also announces a deadline that changes the procedure for everyone: from 1 January 2027, permissive acts will be issued exclusively in digital form, through the state platform SIA GEAP. It also recalls two little-known procedures: the list of works that require no permit at all — among them, one-storey houses under 150 square metres in villages — and the route for registering houses built after 1996 without documents, whose window closed, however, on 30 January 2026.

2–1 against Unirea Cetireni: FC Mănoilești take the Ungheni district «MAGIRUS» Cup

FC Mănoilești won the Ungheni district football cup, the «MAGIRUS», after a 2–1 against Unirea Cetireni in Sunday's final, on 2 August, at the Municipal Stadium in Ungheni. The team coached by Constantin Timoftică led 1–0 at half-time through Bogdan Andrușca's goal and made it 2–0 in the second half through Valentin Lîsenco, while Cetireni pulled one back in the last passage of play, through Alexandru Duminică. This year's edition brought together 12 teams from the district.

The „Vasile Alecsandri” Lyceum in Ungheni stays 7th in the country at the BAC

The ranking published by the Ministry of Education and the National Agency for Curriculum and Evaluation places the „Vasile Alecsandri” Theoretical Lyceum in Ungheni 7th out of 312 theoretical lyceums, with an exam average of 8,81 and a 100% pass rate — the second time in a row in the same position and the only lyceum from outside Chișinău to reach the top ten. But the document says something else about the raion as well: six of Ungheni's eight lyceums obtained better averages than last year, yet three fell in the ranking. The explanation lies in the way the list is ordered — by pass rate, not by average.

Rabies confirmed in Rezina, Ungheni district: animal sales banned in the village for 30 days after the last case

On 30 July the Emergency Situations Commission of the Ungheni district approved a 16-point anti-epizootic plan, after the Territorial Subdivision for Food Safety (Subdiviziunea Teritorială pentru Siguranța Alimentelor) confirmed a case of rabies in the village of Rezina, Mănoilești commune. Collecting and selling animals on the village's territory is banned, the movement of animals is halted, and every animal in the village's households is to be counted within five days. The restrictions lift 30 days after the last case — not 30 days after the decision. The act does not state the species of the infected animal; it became public only on 4 August, in a bulletin of the National Food Safety Agency — a dog. In 2025 the Ungheni district recorded four rabies cases — in the public health agency's list, right after Hîncești, with ten. Post-exposure prophylaxis — after a bite, a scratch or contact with saliva — is free.

On 31 July the Government published a preliminary analysis of pay in 125 public entities. 85.8% of the nearly 40,000 employees have net salaries below 20,000 lei. At the top of the ranking by medians, in the table published by the Government, stands ANRE — the authority that approves water, electricity and gas tariffs — and the Government says it cannot change its pay policy by administrative order.
