Founder and editor-in-chief of Triunghi.md. Ion (Nalyk) Calmîș has worked at the intersection of journalism and technology in the Republic of Moldova for over two decades — a road that began in Ungheni, as a reporter at the newspaper Unghiul. He is CTO of Studio Technologies, the company behind the platforms of some of the country's most-read newsrooms (unimedia.info, jurnal.md, jurnaltv.md, tvrmoldova.md), and Head of AI Ecosystem at Esempla Systems (Moldova's GovStack infrastructure); he co-founded the newsroom Replica Media. At Triunghi.md he puts that experience — and artificial intelligence, at scale — in the service of local journalism built on source triangulation (People, Documents, Data) and on impartiality.
The councils of Petrești and Todirești approved their merger on 31 August, the last day the government had announced for voluntary files. Of the district's 33 town halls, 32 now have a merger decision published in the state register.
Ungheni City Hall is adding one more vehicle each to routes 1 and 3 during the morning peak, and links the decision to the two mornings when mayor Vitalie Vrabie inspected urban transport on those routes, on 1 and 2 September. The longest gap between two buses drops from 23 to 16 minutes on route 1 and from 16 to 14 minutes on route 3, according to calculations by Triunghi.md based on the announced times. Below the announcement, a passenger asks for a service when classes end as well.
The 162-kilometre race finishes in Independence Square, on Națională Street, and the award ceremony follows at around 14.20. The peloton enters the district near Cornești at around 13.20, with an intermediate sprint at Pârlița. In the city, traffic is restricted on sections of Națională, Mihai Eminescu and Vasile Alecsandri streets — some from 7.00, others from 12.00, all until 16.00.
Ungheni city hall is calling on residents to sign waste-collection contracts with AVE-Ungheni SRL, invoking Law no. 178 and warning that otherwise they “will be penalised”. The law — no. 178 of 3 July 2025, in force since 21 July 2026 — provides no penalty for not having a contract: article 25 paragraph (2) says that users without a contract must pay a special tax approved by the local authority. People in Ungheni already pay a local tax of 120 lei a year per person and the operator's tariff: 56 lei a month per household for houses, 18 lei per person in blocks of flats. According to the city hall's 30 July announcement, more than 25% of Ungheni residents had no contract.
Romania today opened 47 new kilometres on the A7 motorway between Adjud and Bacău — the fourth-longest single-day motorway opening in the country's history. From Bacău to the Sculeni border crossing, 175 kilometres remain on ordinary roads. Pașcani, where A7 was supposed to reach under the NRRP, is estimated only for the summer of 2027.
The Bucharest Court of Appeal suspended on August 5 the contract for the DN24–Ungheni Border section of the A8 motorway. Construction cannot begin until the disputes are resolved, with a hearing set for September 30. The approximately 5-km segment in the Republic of Moldova — from the bridge to the Ungheni bypass — is caught in the same ruling.
A supplement to the district newspaper 'Octombrie' appeared on Language Day 1990 carrying the full text of the poem 'Limba noastră', an article on the history of Ungheni and the programme of the first celebration. The Museum of History and Ethnography in Ungheni has published scans of all four pages.
The third round of the Republic of Moldova motocross championship drew riders from Chișinău, Hîncești, Bălți and Transnistria to the Valea Rusului track. The youngest champion, Nicolas Gunya, is between 4 and 9 years old. Next round on September 6 in Chișinău; the Balkan Championship comes to Ungheni on September 19–20.
Ensembles from nine localities in Moldova and Romania took part on 27 August in the seventh edition of the folklore festival in Independence Square, with a folk costume parade and a crafts fair.
