Founder and editor-in-chief of Triunghi.md. Ion (Nalyk) Calmîș has worked at the intersection of journalism and technology in the Republic of Moldova for over two decades — a road that began in Ungheni, as a reporter at the newspaper Unghiul. He is CTO of Studio Technologies, the company behind the platforms of some of the country's most-read newsrooms (unimedia.info, jurnal.md, jurnaltv.md, tvrmoldova.md), and Head of AI Ecosystem at Esempla Systems (Moldova's GovStack infrastructure); he co-founded the newsroom Replica Media. At Triunghi.md he puts that experience — and artificial intelligence, at scale — in the service of local journalism built on source triangulation (People, Documents, Data) and on impartiality.

Ungheni's “Vasile Alecsandri” high school builds its first gym: 13.7 million lei for the first stage alone

The oldest high school in Ungheni district, whose roughly 620 students have had no indoor gym until now, finally has a construction site. The state procurement registry shows a 13.72-million-lei contract for the building's structure, won by COLASS SA. The walls go up this year, the interior follows in 2027 — and the total cost will be higher, because the second stage is not yet budgeted.

Fire at the Costuleni dump: district town halls warn that burning vegetation carries fines of 10,000–15,000 lei

Costuleni Town Hall filmed a new fire at the village dump, a few days after it had asked people not to burn dry vegetation. On the same day, Cioropcani Town Hall issued its own warning. The fire does not come from the day's heat — it is cooler now — but from vegetation left dry after the heatwave and from fires left unattended, an act for which the law provides stinging fines.

On Suceava Street in Ungheni, carabinieri called an ambulance for an unconscious man — their second medical call-out in six days

While on patrol on Suceava Street, carabinieri from the Ungheni mobile intervention company found a man unconscious, called 112 and stayed with him until the ambulance arrived and took him to the Ungheni District Hospital. It is the second time in six days that the same unit has ended up, on patrol, in a first-aid role.

Sculeni adds flashing amber signals and red night lighting at the Ștefan cel Mare crossing — the commune's third reinforced crossing in a month

At one of Sculeni's busiest pedestrian crossings, on the Ștefan cel Mare road, the commune hall has installed two flashing amber signals, and at night the crossing is washed in red projector light. It is the third road-safety intervention in the commune in about a month — after the raised crossing by the lyceum and the painted crossing at Gherman — and each time with a different method.

90,000 lei for a well, yet Petrești still has no water: villagers demand an inquiry

Since late June, residents of Petrești commune (Ungheni district) have complained of going days on end with no water at the tap, especially in the “hill area”, and on 5 July they launched a petition to the mayor's office and the Local Council: they want an inquiry, a public schedule of the cut-offs and, if wrongdoing is found, the dismissal of the official in charge of water distribution. Mayor Serghei Gorea had already replied publicly on 27 June that the problem is being taken seriously — the commune dug a new well, for which the Council allocated 90,000 lei — and points to the drought and the heatwave. Petrești, one of the district's largest villages by number of houses connected to the mains (1,052), depends on its own municipal enterprise, Servicom-Petrești, not on Apă-Canal Ungheni.

578 pupils study next to the Sculeni junction where a raised pedestrian crossing now forces cars to slow down

At the junction of Ion Creangă and Alexandru cel Bun streets in Sculeni, next to the theoretical lyceum, the Arts School and the Health Centre, a raised pedestrian crossing has been built — the kind that physically forces drivers to slow down. The work was carried out by the National Roads Administration, after a request that began with local councillor Petru Iacobciuc.
