The children's hearing room at the Ungheni Police has not been used since 2017

The Ungheni Police Inspectorate has replied to the newsroom: in the minors' hearing room fitted out in 2014 — one of only two functional ones out of the eight opened across the country at the time — not a single child has been heard since 2017, because hearings take place at the Ungheni Court, before the investigating judge. The space inaugurated on 24 July and announced by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands is a different one, cost around 42 thousand lei and is not meant for hearings: the police confirm it does not meet the requirements of article 110¹ of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The Barnahus-type centre for the Centre region is scheduled only by the end of 2027, and the integrated service that operates in Ungheni admits, under its regulations, women from the age of 18.

Viitorul Ungheni's kids are Moldova's U13 beach soccer runners-up

The U13 children's team of the Ungheni District Sports School, “Viitorul”, came back from Chișinău with silver medals: 2nd place at Moldova's national beach soccer championship, 2026 edition, out of a field that both the club and the parents put at 16 teams. It is a step above the bronze the same school took in 2023, in a sport dominated by the capital's clubs and contested on the country's only sand arena.

23 children, two teams and a mini-series: Ungheni's third Theatre Camp has begun

The TeatrUngheni troupe, led by Edgar Bunea — the new artistic director of the House of Culture — has opened the third edition of its Theatre Camp. On the first day, 23 children formed two teams and started filming a „camp mini-series”. The programme runs for ten days. It is one more summer activity for children in a district whose young people are leaving.

«Paparudă, rudă, vino de ne udă»: firefighters close out the children's summer at an Ungheni library

At Branch No. 2 of the Ungheni city library, a week of summer activities ended on Friday with a demonstration by Emergency Situations firefighters — the truck, the gear and the water jet — followed by the old «Paparuda», the rain-calling ritual. It looks like holiday play; it is, in fact, one node of a national prevention campaign through which IGSU has trained more than 121,000 children since the start of the school year. It reached the children of Ungheni too, days after an orange-code heatwave.

From a 1,000-lei fine to 15 days in jail: what the new child-support law changes for parents in Ungheni

Parliament has adopted a law replacing the up-to-1,000-lei fine for parents who fail to pay child support with up to 15 days of arrest, unpaid community work and a ban on leaving the country — enforced right at the border. For a border district like Ungheni, with the Sculeni crossing and hundreds of divorces a year, the border provision is no abstraction. Nationwide, only 4.7% of parents pay support regularly.
