The French Park in Ungheni is changing its face: skatepark, padel and 5,217 m² of sports grounds on the bank of the Prut

The largest green space in the Ungheni municipality is a full building site. Besides the underground networks, the parkour zone, the skatepark and the water-retention basins are already taking shape, and on about 4 hectares there will be sports grounds — including for padel — playgrounds, cycling paths and running tracks. The money comes from two projects, one European and one national, and the healthy trees stay in place: the park was scanned by drone before the works.

Ungheni hosts three days of free training for first-time entrepreneurs from four districts

On 14–16 July, in Ungheni, people who want to start a business — or have just started one — from the Ungheni, Fălești, Nisporeni and Călărași districts can learn for free, from specialists, how to keep a firm afloat. The programme, funded from European money, has reached its eighth round. The hook isn't festive, though: in the Ungheni district, businesses employed over 700 fewer people in 2024 than in 2021, and wages remain a fifth below the national average.

The «Hippocrates Cup» returns to Ungheni: a second women's volleyball tournament honouring medics

On Sunday, 21 June, on Medical Worker's Day, the Ungheni Sports School hosts the second edition of the «Hippocrates Cup» women's volleyball tournament — a contest launched last year by the Ungheni Health Centre with four teams and now billed as «republican». Behind the celebration, though, lies a harsher reality: over eight years the district has lost 26 doctors and 94 nurses, and the district hospital has 25 vacant doctor posts.

Ungheni builds a 17.5-million-lei agri-food market, with completion pushed to autumn

Ungheni City Hall shows a construction site that is moving ahead. The public record, however, says more: a market worth over 17.5 million lei, with its deadline pushed to autumn, funding shifted from a European programme to national money, and open questions about some 80 traders and about the site's transparency.
