The third round of the Republic of Moldova motocross championship drew riders from Chișinău, Hîncești, Bălți and Transnistria to the Valea Rusului track. The youngest champion, Nicolas Gunya, is between 4 and 9 years old. Next round on September 6 in Chișinău; the Balkan Championship comes to Ungheni on September 19–20.
Ensembles from nine localities in Moldova and Romania took part on 27 August in the seventh edition of the folklore festival in Independence Square, with a folk costume parade and a crafts fair.
The director of the 'Regina Maria' Cultural Centre in Ungheni and coordinator of the 'UnFolk' group is the only recipient from the district in the presidential decree conferring 15 'Master of Arts' titles, signed on 28 August.
The Mayor of Cluj-Napoca, Emil Boc, was awarded the 'Medal of Democracy' on 28 August — the highest distinction granted by the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. The medal was presented by the Speaker of Parliament, Igor Grosu, during the Ungheni City Days celebrations. Boc has been an Honorary Citizen of Ungheni since 2023. In the 10 years since the two cities became twins, Ungheni has received support worth around 17 million lei: two renovated parks, donated vehicles and ongoing work on the Delia Lake waterfront.
On 29 August, in the village of Valea Mare in Ungheni district, the Memorial Complex of Heroes and Deportees was inaugurated and consecrated — the place of remembrance that grew from the oak cross Triunghi.md wrote about in July. The initiative of the Iucal family and Veronica Fiodorov, expanded by mayor Alexei Antoci, became a complex with commemorative plaques, a fountain, lighting and pavement, located in the village centre.
On 28 August, on the patron saint's day of Ungheni municipality, over 1500 people — public institution employees, artistic ensembles, sports teams — marched through the city centre in the Celebration Parade, third edition.
The women's under-14 team of FCM Ungheni secured a convincing 7-0 victory in a friendly match played at Zimbru Stadium in Chișinău. The result confirms the growth of women's football at Ungheni — a club that has been investing in girls' and youth teams for several years.
The Petrești Local Council voted for voluntary amalgamation with Todirești at the end of August: initiation on 25 August, approval on 31 August, the last day before the legal ban. In May it had rejected the same proposal, when approximately 300 citizens had also voted against. The Todirești consultation meeting was called for 6 September.
The Ungheni Territorial Football Association organized a football festival for 100 students from the 'M. Eminescu' high school on August 27, the fourth day of the 'Football and Independence in Ungheni' program. The Summer Cup in mini-football reached matchday six.
