How a graduate from Ungheni can get a tuition-free place in Romania

The Romanian Universities Fair, now in its fifteenth edition, stopped in Ungheni on Saturday, 4 July — part of a tour through four cities of the Republic of Moldova. Beyond the stands, the stakes for an Ungheni graduate are concrete: the Romanian state offers thousands of tuition-free places each year, some with a stipend, at universities across the Prut, and Iași is less than 50 kilometres away. Here is what the «Romanians everywhere» programme offers, how to apply and what to watch for.

«Paparudă, rudă, vino de ne udă»: firefighters close out the children's summer at an Ungheni library

At Branch No. 2 of the Ungheni city library, a week of summer activities ended on Friday with a demonstration by Emergency Situations firefighters — the truck, the gear and the water jet — followed by the old «Paparuda», the rain-calling ritual. It looks like holiday play; it is, in fact, one node of a national prevention campaign through which IGSU has trained more than 121,000 children since the start of the school year. It reached the children of Ungheni too, days after an orange-code heatwave.

Ungheni Vocational School opens 2026 admission: nine trades and an online application from 20 July

The district's only vocational school has announced its 2026 admission: nine trades — from welder, electrician and car mechanic to IT operator and dual-system seamstress — with applications filed from 20 July, exclusively online, through the national platform eadmitere.sime.md. Behind it lies a state bet: for the 2026–2027 school year the Government approved 12,282 state-funded places in vocational education, of which 2,669 are in the dual system — 535 more than last year. Here is what you can study, which documents you need, how much the file costs and who has priority.

Ten Ungheni students with straight 10s honoured at the first excellence gala — and there are now six at the Baccalaureate, not four

On Friday, the Ungheni District Council held the first edition of its «Ungheni — Where Excellence Inspires» gala and awarded a diploma, a cash prize and flowers to ten students who scored a final mark of 10 in every national exam: six high-school graduates and four from lower secondary. Meanwhile, the final Baccalaureate results have raised the number of Ungheni students with straight 10s from four, as the preliminary data showed, to six — and this time one of them is a boy.

Half a million lei for a village school: the state repairs the Boghenii Noi gymnasium

The Ministry of Education and Research will invest 500,000 lei in the „Anatol Popovici” gymnasium in Boghenii Noi for repair works this summer, the Ungheni District Council announced. It is state money going straight into a rural school in the Culei area — a concrete figure and a clear funder, which is usually missing from announcements about repairs in educational institutions. What exactly the sum covers was not detailed.

Old clothes turned into new pieces: students at the Ungheni vocational school learned upcycling in a European circular-fashion project

In May and June, the Ungheni vocational school hosted two creative workshops — „Cercul inovativ al tradiției” and „Firul memoriei” — in which participants gave a second life to old clothes and made objects from recycled materials. The workshops were brought in by ZIPHOUSE, Chișinău's creative and fashion-industry hub, through TEX-DAN, an initiative of the European Interreg programme dedicated to the circular economy in textiles. For a school that trains tailors and garment makers, it is a bridge between the core trade and one of the most pressing environmental problems of our time: fashion-industry waste.

Kitchen of the „Poienița” kindergarten in Cornești rebuilt from scratch: tiles, professional ventilation and a new stove for children's meals

The Cornești town hall announced on 3 July that renovation of the food block — the kitchen where children's meals are cooked every day — at the „Poienița” kindergarten is complete. Official photos show a room lined with tiles, an industrial extractor hood and ducting, a four-burner stove, and new furniture and sinks. The announcement does not say how much the work cost or who paid for it, and the Register of Local Acts contains no town-council decision explicitly dedicated to this project.

94 fewer nurses in eight years: Ungheni Medical College opens its 2026 admissions

Ungheni Medical College has announced its 2026 admissions: applications run from 20 July to 7 August, along two routes to the nurse qualification — five years after gymnasium, or three years with a baccalaureate. Behind a promotional poster lies a more serious stake: over eight years, the district has lost 94 nurses and 26 doctors, and this college is, in effect, the only local nursery that replaces them.
