Furtună la Ungheni: circa 100 de copaci doborâți, 86 de oameni și 31 de utilaje mobilizați în noapte

O furtună convectivă a lovit municipiul Ungheni marți seara, 25 august, cu câteva ore înainte de intrarea în vigoare a codului galben. Circa 100 de arbori au fost doborâți, 6 mașini avariate, fire electrice și de telecomunicații deteriorate. Nu au fost victime. Salvatorii IGSU, Servicii Comunale, Rețelele Electrice și Ungheni-Gaz au mobilizat 86 de persoane cu 31 de utilaje.

Yellow fire code, ten days nationwide: what the law bans and what burning stubble costs

The Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring has extended its warning of exceptional danger of vegetation fires until 31 July, for most of the country — including the Ungheni district, in the middle of its harvest campaign. The law bans burning stubble and plant residue, and the fine reaches 15,000 lei for an individual and 40,000 for a company. Last year, fires lit by people were the main cause of blazes in the fields.

The State Hydrometeorological Service issued on Friday a yellow code fire danger warning for July 18–22 — «exceptional danger of vegetation fires» — and on Saturday added a yellow code heat warning, with +33…+34 °C, for July 18–19. The Ungheni city hall calls for caution. What the law forbids in these days and what breaking it costs: burning plant waste is fined 10.000–15.000 lei for individuals.

Fire at the Costuleni dump: district town halls warn that burning vegetation carries fines of 10,000–15,000 lei

Costuleni Town Hall filmed a new fire at the village dump, a few days after it had asked people not to burn dry vegetation. On the same day, Cioropcani Town Hall issued its own warning. The fire does not come from the day's heat — it is cooler now — but from vegetation left dry after the heatwave and from fires left unattended, an act for which the law provides stinging fines.

«Paparudă, rudă, vino de ne udă»: firefighters close out the children's summer at an Ungheni library

At Branch No. 2 of the Ungheni city library, a week of summer activities ended on Friday with a demonstration by Emergency Situations firefighters — the truck, the gear and the water jet — followed by the old «Paparuda», the rain-calling ritual. It looks like holiday play; it is, in fact, one node of a national prevention campaign through which IGSU has trained more than 121,000 children since the start of the school year. It reached the children of Ungheni too, days after an orange-code heatwave.

A 16-year-old from Ungheni district drowned in a forbidden spot, four days after the district ordered water patrols

The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations reports three drowning deaths in three days, two of them minors, all in unsupervised spots. The first case, on 26 June, is at Măcărești, in Ungheni district: a 16-year-old boy bathing with friends in a forbidden zone. The 2026 drowning toll has climbed to 31 people, 7 of them minors — up from 18 just ten days earlier. The tragedy came four days after the Ungheni Emergency Situations Commission ordered water patrols, but far from the municipality's two lifeguard-staffed beaches.

Ungheni opens its Prut and Delia beaches on Sunday — with lifeguards, a rarity in a country where 18 people have drowned in 2026

Mayor Vitalie Vrabie has signed the order opening the 2026 summer season at the municipal beaches on the Prut River and Lake Delia from 21 June, with lifeguards on duty all summer.
