BORDER & TRANSPORT

The Prut bridge at Ungheni is almost ready. But you won't be able to cross it until 2028

The pair of bridges over the Prut, from Ungheni to Zagarancea, will be ready around autumn 2026. Crossing the Prut on them, though, won't open together with the bridge: the customs complex, the border control point and the access roads still have to be built — a second phase with a 2028 horizon. On the Romanian bank the work is contracted and awaiting its permit; on the Moldovan bank, beyond European money promised since 2023 and two land transfers in 2026, there is still no contractor, no contract and no deadline.
