Heat to hit 38 °C in Ungheni from Tuesday, with tropical nights — orange code, red in the south

The Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring has issued a heatwave warning for 28 June – 1 July. Ungheni opens its Prut and Delia beaches on Sunday — with lifeguards, a rarity in a country where 18 people have drowned in 2026

Mayor Vitalie Vrabie has signed the order opening the 2026 summer season at the municipal beaches on the Prut River and Lake Delia from 21 June, with lifeguards on duty all summer. In a country where almost all drownings happen at unsupervised spots — 18 people have died that way since the start of 2026 — a beach with a lifeguard post is not a formality but a safety measure.
