Bușila, Chirileni and Negurenii Vechi want to merge: three mayoralties into one, above the 3,000-resident threshold

Three neighbouring communes in Ungheni district — Bușila, Chirileni and Negurenii Vechi — have started the voluntary amalgamation process and are now consulting their residents. Each council voted, in the spring, to initiate the merger, and together the three would gather 3,533 residents — above the 3,000 threshold that the administrative reform requires of a mayoralty. The idea of a single administration for three villages divides people: some see it as a chance for better services, others fear they will lose their home mayoralty. Here is what has been decided so far, what comes next and what the two camps say.
