From 24 June, smoking in a block's stairwell or on your own balcony becomes an offence. An Ungheni resident risks up to 2,250 lei
A national law (no. 125/2025) sharply widens, from 24 June, the list of places where smoking is banned — from sports grounds, bus stops and beaches to apartment-block stairwells and your own balcony — and raises the fines: up to 2,250 lei for a person and up to 15,000 for a company, with suspension of activity. The police write the ticket. In a town where almost one adult in three smokes, one question is left hanging: where will people still be allowed to smoke? Ungheni City Hall promised a list of designated spots — but has not published it yet.
